Here we will acknowledge members who have made an outstanding contribution to the club over the years – on and off the court. There will be 10 initial inductees – one to celebrate each year of Hawks!
Amy Adlard: A Hawk from day 1, and one of only 2 players to have featured in every Hawks season! She’s spent most of the last decade on the committee, tackling the Chair role and creating this lovely website. On Court, she’s played over 120 games for Hawks and scored a stack of goals over the course of a decade in the first team. Nobody has played more games, and only a couple have scored more goals. Truly the definitive Hawk! Currently the North West Korfball president.
Steve Doyle: A Hawks 1 mainstay for 6 seasons and still the 2nd highest all time scorer! Steve was coach, 1sts captain and tournament sec during his Hawks career. He was also part of the group that kept the club going during a tough patch around 2015 when lots of regulars moved away, laying the foundations for the Hawks success story that you see today! Steve’s first game for Hawks was actually as a guest – he was part of another club and was only meant to be reffing! It was a true love story, and he became a full time Hawk soon after!
Harriet Derrick: Another Hawks 1 staple from the early years! Harriet was part of the very first Hawks season and was instrumental in the team’s back to back promotions. A nails defender who scored some crucial goals, she went on to be club secretary and a successful Hawks 1 captain. She was also always a helpful and friendly face for new and old members. After a spell abroad she’s currently korfing it up in Edinburgh with Mavericks!
Thom Partridge: Another Hawk who was there from the very beginning. Thom was a Hawks 1 mainstay from day 1 until 2017, and is still the 3rd highest all-time scorer for the firsts! His committee roles at the club included Chair, Secretary and Captain, and he was a key part of the 2011-13 team that won back-to-back promotions. He’s still got the korf bug, and is currently banging in the goals down in Norfolk.
Anne-Marie Lyons: The life and soul of the club during her 7 year spell as a Hawk. She was a 1st team regular for years; solid in defence, a scorer of big long shots, and the loudest “party” shouter in the business! Maz’s committee roles included secretary and social sec, and she was always a friendly face for any newcomers at training. Off court, she still comes down to the occasional social and can often be seen twirling people around the dance floor!
Taj Uddin: One of only 2 players to have appeared in every season for Hawks! He’s played for every Hawks team, and he’s always a threat with that mean shot of his. Our resident social media rascal, he’s also a notorious bad boy: he’s the only Hawk to ever have received a yellow card! It wasn’t really his fault, but he’s certainly a competitive character on court… Taj only graces us with his presence a few times a year nowadays, but he dusted off his pink lycra to play a crucial part in our rounders league win last year.
Annie Hird: A Hawks 1 superstar! She had a stint as captain and was a huge part of the team for 7 years. Played during the back to back promotion seasons, and later returned from a spell away just in time to help Hawks stay up at the end of the 2016/17 season. Over 100 goals and countless CERL girls left in her dust, Annie certainly left an impact on the first team and the record books!
Stuart Carvel: One of the club’s most long running members, Stu has done it all! He’s coached, he’s captained and he’s played for 9 seasons across our top 3 teams. He’s one of the club’s best refs, volunteering to take on a big chunk of our reffing commitments over the years. Aside from captaining, Stu’s time on the committee also included the communications sec role. He’s a sneaky goal scorer who doesn’t mind bending the rules now and again… Definitely part of the furniture!
Leanne Berney: One of the longest serving Hawks, Leanne has seen it all. She’s played for every team over the course of her 9 years as a Hawk, and is one of only 2 players to have played over 100 games for the club! She’s right up there in the scoring charts, and she got her 100th goal this season. As well as captaining a couple of teams, her committee roles have included secretary and tournament sec. A regular at socials who’s travelled to Stockholm, Attila and Nitra with us. A true Big Name In Hawks!
Sam Hill: The founder. Sam got the ball rolling for the formation of Hawks after leaving Man Uni – laying the groundwork for the club you see today! He secured the early grants that allowed the club to grow, and along with Thom picked out the famous black, red and white colour scheme. The long serving club chair was also a top player throughout his Hawks career, scoring a huge 104 goals over 4 seasons. He was involved in the back to back promotions seasons and is still in the top 10 club goal scorers. Another Hall of Famer said “He is Hawks!”, and we couldn’t agree more!
